Impression of *The Martian*

HBO showed The Martian last night, and I watched most of it.  (Since I had read the book and reviewed it here and here, I didn’t feel an urgency to see it in the theater when it came out.)  It was a good, thoroughly enjoyable movie, but it just didn’t capture enough of the book’s humor to suit me.  The emphasis was laid on the dramatic rescue of Mark Watney and perhaps that is as it should be for a film to be seen by millions rather than a story to read by thousands; but I’d still advise that you read the novel, if you haven’t done so.  It’s a richer experience.
