Look Whose Birthday It Is

Garrison Keillor has a great Writer’s Almanac up today.  Read the sketches about Walker Percy, May Swenson, and Ian Fleming.  Swenson I just wrote about a few weeks ago. Percy, in addition to his superb skills as a novelist, did the literary world a favor by finally giving in to John Kennedy Toole’s mother and reading the manuscript for A Confederacy of Dunces.  Toole’s novel was published posthumously, and it stands as one of the funniest American books ever written–I’ve met some of the characters therein.
