According to Twitter, which keeps up with such things, it’s World Poetry Day. Good Lord, how does one mark such an occasion? By citing one’s “favorite poem?” For the man or woman who dwells daily with words, that’s like calling attention to one’s favorite stone in a cathedral.
Maybe a better approach is simply to acknowledge entities like Poetry.org, and encourage you to keep reading the poetry that pleases you and gives you things to think about. I’ve been extraordinarily lucky all my life to have read so much good poetry from every age and clime. I could stop tomorrow and be well pleased. . . . but I don’t want to.
