Books For Children, Big And Small

Monica Edinger has pulled together a short list of books that are great for introducing children to what’s really in the world around them.

But that’s not all.  One book on her list, David Macaulay’s How Machines Work, is an offshoot of Macaulay’s earlier, superb examination of The Way Things Work, an essential guide that we will need if we do in fact ever have to put the world back together after an apocalyptic event.  Use the pictures of How Machines Work to explain things to your kids, but keep the latest edition of Macaulay’s earlier book handy in the garage for the do-it-yourselfer in the family, or in that fireproof safe in your bedroom for the day we hope never comes.
